Lace up your walking shoes, grab your stroller or wagon, and bring the kids for a walking adventure through Old Salem on Saturday, September 8, as Brenner Children’s Hospital hosts the 2nd annual Brenner Walk and Bike Race-Fighting Childhood Obesity.
The walk begins at 9 am and features an interactive walk through historic Old Salem. Throughout the walk, you and your family will enjoy activities including an obstacle course, “tri-hop-a-thon” and more. You will also learn simple tips your family can use to lead a healthier lifestyle.
After the walk, experience first-hand a professional bike criterium. The bike race begins at 11 am and is limited to professional bikers. This is not your ordinary road race! A criterium is a high-speed race on a short track, so be ready to watch as the cyclists’ burn rubber. The intensity is sure to thrill and make your family want to break out your bikes at home.
Walks and bike rides are excellent ways for families to participate in fitness opportunities together, and
this fundraising event is destined to become Winston-Salem’s most popular family-focused event for years to come!
Proceeds from the event benefit the Brenner FIT (Families in Training) Program, which is a family-centered, evidence-based approach to weight management. This means we use the latest in research-proven methods to improve the weight and health of children and their families. We include the whole family in the treatment process, and focus on changing habits and behaviors, rather than restrictive diets and harsh exercises.
