HISTORY ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The first Festival of Trees was held in 1988 at three local malls. Since the inception of the Festival, it has also been held at the Sawtooth Building and Benton Convention Center. It started with selling a few trees to becoming one of Winston-Salem’s premier holiday events.  Visitors stroll through a winter village full of decorated trees, magnificent gingerbread houses, an assortment of specialty shops, and an array of children’s activities.  There are celebrity ornaments and gingerbread houses sold through silent auction and wreaths and mini-trees to purchase. The main stage features continuous live entertainment and attracts people of all ages.  This extraordinary event has become a tradition of the Triad’s holiday season while raising much needed funds for Brenner Children’s Hospital.  Be sure to mark your calendars for this spectacular event for the whole family.  You will not want to miss it!

BENEFICIARIES
Funds raised through the Festival of Trees Support these Programs:

Home Visitation Program
Pediatric nurses go out into every county in the state and counsel children with cancer and their parents so that they understand their treatments.  The nurses also go out to the schools and explain cancer to the classmates because a lot of children do not understand and they think they will catch the cancer.

Because We Care
Several years ago a nurse at the hospital had a young son die suddenly of cancer and she saw a need to have follow-up with parents that have a child die in the hospital.  The program consists of follow-up visits with the parents and a Holiday Program each year.  The Program is a memorial service for the children who have died that year in the hospital.  A tree is decorated with an ornament for each child that the parents get to take home with them.

Support Group for Teenagers with Cancer
Provides support to Pediatric Oncology Patients and their families during treatment and follow-up periods through counseling services, informational programs, networking opportunities, assistance with school issues, social events and various other activities.

Support Group for Parents that have children in the Intensive Care Nursery

ENTERTAINMENT
Throughout the two days of the Festival of Trees live entertainment will be featured on the Festival stage. The performers are amateur and professional, young and young at heart, choirs, bands, ballet dancers, ethnic singers and dancers, and gymnasts. Festival of Trees is grateful to the many performers who volunteer their time and talents for the benefit of Brenner Children's Hospital. If you or your group is interested in performing at the Festival of Trees, please contact the Festival of Trees office at 336-716-7985.

Thank you for your interest in being a decorator for the Festival of Trees. We are currently accepting decorator applications for 2007.
