The pediatric cardiology clinic at Brenner Children’s Hospital is committed to providing top-quality care. From life-saving treatments like ECMO to the most up-to-date procedures to repair atrial septal defects and patent foramen ovale (PFO) closures to pediatric cardiothoracic surgery to treat infants and children with heart defects, we offer the best options for our pediatric patients.
What else will you find at our pediatric cardiology clinic?
- Clinical trials that allow us to give our patients access to the latest and most current treatment options.
- A metabolic syndrome clinic for children who suffer from the disorder.
- The support group Mended Little Hearts, which is affiliated with the American Heart Association. This group offers support and educational resources and helps to raise awareness about children with heart problems.
More about Our ECMO Program
ECMO stands for Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation. It is a special procedure that allows patients with a sick or injured heart and/or lungs the opportunity to rest and heal. ECMO was first used in 1971; in the years since, over 17,000 patients have received ECMO therapy.
Wake Forest Baptist’s ECMO Program opened in 1996, and our pediatric cardiology clinic provides this vital procedure for infants and children, as well as adults, who would not survive without this special therapy.
