The Pediatric Enhanced Care Program

Having a child who has complicated medical needs can be exhausting and overwhelming. Many families feel they need extra support. The mission of the Pediatric Enhanced Care Team is to improve the quality of care for children who are seriously ill or have complicated chronic medical conditions.

Our Services

The hospital-based Enhanced Care Program offers the following services:

  • Discussion of Goals of Care (including assistance in care planning or decision making)
  • Care Coordination Pain & Symptom Management
  • Psychological & Spiritual Support

Meet Our Team

Savithri Nageswaran, MD, MPH Savithri Nageswaran, MBBS, MPH is a pediatric palliative care physician and the medical director of the Pediatric Enhanced Care Program. She conducts research to improve care of children with serious illnesses. She is the recipient of the 2011 Cunniff-Dixon Physician Award. [Watch the video.] The award is given to physicians whose patient care is exemplary, who model good medicine for other physicians and who emphasize the importance of end-of-life care as a basic part of the doctor-patient relationship.

Aura Anania, BSW, MSW is the care coordinator of the community-based Pediatric Enhanced Care - Extend Program. This program serves the following five rural counties: Davie, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes & Yadkin Counties. Ms. Anania has extensive experience working in the community caring for children and families in the disciplines of therapeutic foster care and bereavement services through hospice.

Andrea Radulovic, RN, BSN, MPH is the nurse coordinator of the Pediatric Enhanced Care Program. She has extensive experience in pediatric and hospice and palliative nursing. She has developed programs for children with HIV.

Lisa Hagan, LPN, CHPLN is the care coordinator of the community-based Pediatric Enhanced Care Program. Ms. Hagan has worked for many years as a hospice nurse. She has extensive experience working in the community caring for children with serious illnesses.

Angel Mitchell, RN BSN CPN is the program manager for the Because We Care pediatric bereavement program. She has many years’ experience as a pediatric nurse.

Shannon Golden, MA is a research associate in the department of pediatrics. She has expertise in qualitative methodology. She works with Dr. Nageswaran in her research to improve care of children with complex chronic conditions.
