RESIDENT CONFERENCES:

 

 

Daily Morning Report: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (8:00 - 9:00 AM)

 

 

Intern Morning Report: Wednesday (8:00 - 9:00 AM) 

  • Intern only morning report with the former Chairman of the department of Pediatrics (Dr. Jimmy Simon) to present a recently admitted case, discussing workup, diagnosis, pathophysiology of disease, and treatment.

 

Outpatient Morning Conference: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (8:00 - 8:30 AM)

  • Residents on outpatient rotation meet to lead half hour discussion on topic of acute care related to outpatient pediatrics.

 

Chairman’s Conference: Occurs monthly (12:00 -1:00 PM)

  • Known by the residents as the “stump the chumps hour”. Faculty are presented a case in small segments while trying to correctly diagnose the patient. They must discuss aloud their thinking as they develop a differential diagnosis, request testing, procedures, etc.

 

Chairman's Hour: Wednesday (11:00 - 12:00 AM)

  • The Chairman of the department meets with all inpatient residents to discuss a topic directly related to patients for whom they are currently providing care.

 

Grand Rounds: Friday (8:00 - 9:00 AM)


Clinic Conference: Weekly (1:00 - 1:30 PM)

  • Residents meet with their continuity clinic residents and attendings to discuss topics from our case based outpatient pediatrics curriculum.

 

Core Faculty Lectures: Noon conference (12:00 -1:00 PM)


Board Review: Occurs monthly (12:00 -1:00 PM)


Joint Pediatric Surgery Conference: Wednesday (12:00 -1:00 PM)


Morbidity and Mortality Conference Monthly: Occurs monthly (12:00 -1:00 PM)


Pediatric Pathology Conference: Occurs monthly (12:00 -1:00 PM)


Journal Club: Occurs monthly (12:00 -1:00 PM)


Code Simulation Laboratory: Twice monthly during inpatient rotations

  • Simulation mannequin laboratory running mock code scenarios for residents. Real-time feedback and follow-up analysis provided to residents.

 

ED Code Simulation Laboratory: Occurs once during outpatient rotation

  • Pediatric ED attending physician present for 3 hour session providing teaching and running mock code scenarios in small groups with residents.

 

Behavioral Health Modules: 4 scheduled modules run by psychiatry attendings during intern year


Other Scheduled Teaching:
Radiology rounds during ICU months
Evidence Based Medicine curriculum
In-service exam
