Faculty Highlights

Chairman Jon Abramson was recently awarded the Denny, Katz, Simon, Tinglestad Academic Service Award by the members of the North Carolina Pediatric Society.  With numerous journal articles and book chapters under his belt, Dr Abramson is very active nationally and internationally with children's health issues, particularly in promoting universal immunization.  He has headed the Red Book Committee and still remains ever-present in the Brenner Children's Hospital.

Dr Robert Schwartz, Professor of Endocrinology, was presented the Outstanding Achievement Award for his work with Childhood Obesity Prevention.  Dr Schwartz is renowned for practicing and teaching motivational interviewing styles and helps run an obesity program in the community.

Author of The Holistic Pediatrician, Dr Kathi Kemper,  is a professor in Pediatrics and Integrative Medicine and was awarded "Mentor of the Year' Award in 2008 for her work throughout the medical community.

Named after our esteemed emeritus faculty Dr Jimmy L. Simon, the Excellence in Teaching Award was given in 2008 to Dr Larry Givner for his committment and skills in teaching.
