Critical Care Transport Team

Brenner Children's Hospital Critical Care Transport (CCT) is staffed 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

Education with the Critical Care Transport Team

We have certified instructors in BLS, PALS, and NRP and would love to come and teach or assist you in teaching one of these classes.

We can set up a S.T.A.B.L.E. Education Course for your nursing staff.

About the Critical Care Transport Team

  • Begun in June of 1987 as Neonatal Transport Team. Since then, it has grown into a Neonatal/Pediatric transport team
  • Staffed by a Registered Nurse, a Registered Respiratory Therapist and an EMT Driver
    • Total number of RNs is 15 with more than 110 years of critical care nursing experience
    • Total number of RRTs is 14 with more than 125 years of critical care respiratory experience
  • Transports patients from the 20 county referral region of Northwest North Carolina, Southern Virginia, and Western Tennessee
  • Transports to the Intensive Care Nursery, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Inpatient Pediatric Units, or to the Pediatric Emergency Department of Brenner Children's Hospital
  • Trained in the critical care of neonatal and pediatric patients & some team members have more than 20 years critical care experience

The Brenner Children's Hospital Critical Care Transport Team provides many advanced therapies including:

  • Intubation
  • Mechanical Ventilation
  • High-Frequency Ventilation
  • Inhaled Nitric Oxide Delivery
  • Surfactant Administration
  • Needle Decompression and Chest Tube Placement
  • Central Line Placement with Umbilical Lines or External Jugular Cannulation
  • Arterial Line Placement and Monitoring
  • EKG Monitoring and Analysis

There are several modes of transport available for transport of the neonatal and pediatric patient.

  • Three ambulances equipped as mobile critical care units
  • AirCare's Helicopter for patients in need of rapid transport
  • Long Distance transport capability by fixed wing service
