Working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Dietetic Association and the N.C. Task Force for Healthy Weight in Children and Adolescents, Brenner physicians are developing methods to help physicians nationwide address obesity. Locally, Brenner Children’s physicians are collaborating with area school systems to teach children and families about better nutrition and the importance of physical activity. Brenner Children’s researchers also have drawn attention to the resurfacing of rickets among African Americans. By providing education and vitamin supplements to breastfeeding mothers, pediatricians hope to curb the effects of this preventable disease. |
