Pediatric Cochlear Implant Program
The Implant & Candidacy

At Brenner, our Team currently implants and supports the technology of the Cochlear Americas, Inc. products. These products have had the best patient-safety record among all manufacturers of cochlear implants.  Years of experience in both adult and pediatric implantation using these devices has cultivated a thorough knowledge of these products and their support services. In compliance with federal and state recommendations, consideration for an implant includes completion of:

  1. All necessary hearing testing.
  2. Speech/Communication skills assessment.
  3. A minimum three-month trial with hearing aids.
  4. A record of up-to-date vaccinations, including complete pneumococcal vaccination in accordance with the CDC guidelines. (Additionally, we recommend Hib and meningococcal vaccination.)
  5. An EKG and a urinalysis.
  6. CT imaging and/or MRI imaging.
  7. Additional evaluations as determined appropriate in Ophthalmology, Developmental Pediatrics, Genetics, Cardiology, social services, etc.

For more information, including patient information on hearing loss or our surgeries, please contact the Pediatric Otolaryngology Offices at 336-713-4583.
