Pediatric Infectious Diseases

Brenner Children’s pediatric infectious diseases specialists provide expertise to the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, helping to write the nation’s vaccine standards and consulting on health issues such as bioterrorism. Brenner Children’s four infectious disease experts are engaged in the treatment and prevention of a wide range of diseases. Some routinely travel to Africa to care for HIV-infected children and do research, while other experts work with HIV-infected and exposed children in North Carolina to ensure their medical and social needs are addressed. Others study state-of-the-art immunotherapies to prevent or better treat infections in infants.
