About the Collaborative
The Kohl’s Family Collaborative was originally established as the WFUSM-YWCA Collaborative to Strengthen Families and Neighborhoods in 2007. This was a dream of Florence Corpening, CEO/President of the YWCA of Winston-Salem, and Dr. Shari Barkin, pediatrician at Brenner Children’s Hospital/Wake Forest University School of Medicine, to have these two institutions partner to improve the health of the Winston-Salem community.
Recently our collaboration efforts have been recognized by The Kohl’s Corporation. In 2009 we welcomed Kohl’s as a partner. Since that time we have been known as the Kohl’s Family Collaborative.
Despite the change in our name, our mission continues to be the same. We seek to build mutually beneficial collaborations between community and academic partners that promote the development, implementation, and translation of innovative and sustainable interventions that measurably improve child health by strengthening families and neighborhoods.
