Programs

The Kohl’s Family Collaborative seeks to accomplish its mission through innovative programming, research, outreach, and education.  Our programming changes on a regular basis to meet the needs of our families.  Please come back soon if we do not currently have a program designed to meet your needs, as we are constantly expanding our offerings.  If you have a suggestion of a topic you would like addressed, or would like to receive notices of future events, please contact our program coordinator. 

Please note: some of our programs are a part of research projects.  If a program involves research it will be clearly stated in the description. 

We are currently offering:

FIT Meals: An 8 week hands-on cooking & meal planning series.  Research
To register please contact the program coordinator at 722-5138 ext 318 or sebbers@wfubmc.edu.  Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.

FIT Movement: An 8 week program developed to spotlight family friendly exercise opportunities available in your community.  This program is geared toward persons new to fitness facilities and/or over weight persons seeking exposure to fitness opportunities in a non-intimidating setting.  Free to all participants.  This program will begin in February 2010.  

DEAC Screens: A monthly family focused health screen including glucose and cholesterol screening.   This service is free and offered in conjunction with the DEAC clinic.  Health screenings will be geared toward underserved members of the Forsyth community.  Early arrival is encouraged, as we are only able to serve 30 persons each month.  This program will begin in February 2010. 

FIT Store sponsored by Food Lion:  Families will be provided basic information to enhance their knowledge of food preparation, meal planning, and budgeting.  Families will also be able to shop for free nutritious groceries to prepare additional meals at home.  This program is geared toward persons at risk of being hungry or who struggle to afford healthy foods.

FIT Nutrition: A Brown Bag Lunch discussion focusing on Toddler Nutrition.  This program is based on the teachings of Ellyn Satter and is led by a licensed family counselor and dietician.  This program is geared toward parents seeking to learn new interventions to improve the health and nutrition of their families.  

FIT Fun Night: A monthly opportunity to experience family friendly activities.  This program is designed for families who are interested in family fitness, Kohl’s program participants, V-FIT patients, Brenner FIT patients, and families working with the Brenner FIT phone coach.   Families will have the opportunity to experience different activities that are regularly offered in the community.
