Frequently Asked Questions about Brenner FIT

"How much does Brenner FIT cost?”

Our program operates like a traditional doctor’s office. Your insurance, including Medicaid, is billed twice for doctor visits. Payment process subject to change. For more specific questions about cost, please call us at (336) 713-2348.

"How long will our family be in the program?"

Brenner FIT is a six-month program. After six months, your family is welcome to continue participating in Brenner FIT for as long as you need support.

“How often will my child and family need to come back?”

The need for follow-up is determined based on your family’s needs. Typically, families are seen every 3-4 weeks for about 6 months.

"What is the typical length of an appointment?"

Your family’s first visit to Brenner FIT is about two hours. After this initial visit, follow up visits generally last 45 minutes to one hour.

“Who needs to come to appointments?”

You, your child and any caregivers/family members that are involved in your child’s daily life are invited to the orientation and initial team visit. Future visits typically include one or more parents/caregivers and the child depending on their age. Younger children can usually stay in school or at home for visits while older children (late middle school and high school) can come to visits since they are more involved in choices with food, activity and routine. Changes involving the whole family are best made with everyone’s involvement.

“Who will my child/family meet with?"

At your child’s first visit, the whole family will be meeting with a Physician, Activity Specialist, Dietitian, and Counselor. You and your child will follow up with these team members as needed. Referrals to other specialists may be made. As we are a teaching institution, we may have students and other trainees spending time with your Brenner FIT team for some of your visits.

“What happens when my child’s health improves?”

You will continue seeing your child’s primary medical doctor for regular care. However, if your child is in need of Brenner FIT care as they grow older, you are always welcome to call us to make an appointment.
