Family-Centered Care

At Brenner Children's, we believe in the philosophy of family-centered care. We work closely with families to develop individualized and customized treatment plans for their child and are always available to answer any questions parents and other family members may have. Our promise is to keep you safe, care for you, respect you and your time, and involve you and your family in your care.

Diagnosis

Our team uses state-of-the-art technology to swiftly and effectively diagnose and treat children with cancer and blood diseases. We use advanced imaging techniques to view detailed images inside our patients’ bodies and specific blood tests to detect abnormalities as early as possible.

Cancer Treatments

After a patient is diagnosed, we assemble a team of experts who design a specific treatment plan, customized to the patient’s needs. These may include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, bone marrow and stem cell transplants, minimally invasive surgeries and radiation therapy. Many of our patients qualify for enrollment on Children's Oncology Group therapeutic studies which offer state of the art care across the country.

Radiation Oncology

Radiation therapy is a treatment option for many cancers. Our specialized targeted radiation therapies pinpoint a tumor’s exact location and anticipate its potential movement. Our radiation oncologists create custom radiation beams to fit particular tumors and minimize damage to surrounding tissue and other areas.

Research

Pediatric research is an essential component of Brenner Children’s overall mission. The pediatric hematology and oncology experts participate in clinical trials and research studies to advance care for children with cancer or a blood disorders. We collaborate with our colleagues at Brenner and at other institutions throughout the United States to search for new and better ways to care for pediatric patients and improve their health outcomes. Our membership in the Children’s Oncology Group enables us to give our patients access to cutting-edge clinical trials aimed at finding better ways to diagnose and treat pediatric cancer.

Pediatric Cancer Survivor Program

Wake Forest Baptist Health houses the region's only dedicated cancer survivorship clinic. In our pediatric cancer survivorship clinic, our patients continue their routine cancer surveillance as well as begin to focus on long-term care with the goal of preventing or managing late effects they may experience from their treatment.  We work with our patients and their families to develop a long-term follow-up care plan as well as provide emotional support and facilitate medical referrals as needed. Our team includes a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, a Social Worker and we have access to survivorship research studies and community resources. Comprehensive Hemophilia/Thrombosis Diagnostic and Treatment Center

The Wake Forest Baptist Health Hemophilia Treatment Center has provided comprehensive health services to children and adults with bleeding disorders since 1976, when the Maternal and Child Health Bureau of the Department of Health and Human Services first began funding treatment centers. Our shared philosophy is to provide multidimensional healthcare services to patients with bleeding and clotting disorders and to support families and caregivers in meeting those needs. As part of a federally funded network of hemophilia treatment centers, we are able to access unique opportunities such as nationally supported surveillance programs and innovative research efforts.

Our team consists of specialized physicians, nurses, a social worker, a physical therapist, and support staff dedicated to providing care throughout a patient’s life, including transitional phase of care from pediatric to adult medicine. Our program aims to collaborate not only with our colleagues who provide similar care in different regions of the country, but with our most valuable resource - you.
