Pediatric Rheumatology

The pediatric rheumatology program at Brenner Children’s Hospital is the region’s leading center for treatment of rheumatologic conditions in children. Our experts treat a broad range of conditions including arthritis, lupus, and vasculitis. We have a multidisciplinary approach to management of rheumatologic conditions and work closely with other sub-specialists including orthopedics, physical therapy, cardiology, immunology, nephrology, ophthalmology, and pulmonology to provide excellent care for our patients.

What is a pediatric rheumatologist?

Pediatric rheumatologists care for rheumatologic and inflammatory disorders in infants, children, and adolescents.  Inflammatory disorders can involve joints, soft tissue, blood vessels, and other tissues.  Pediatric rheumatolgists are experts in autoimmune and autoinflammatory conditions and provide diagnosis, treatment, education, and follow-up for rheumatic diseases.  We also evaluate patients with undiagnosed multisystemic diseases.

What should you expect at your pediatric rheumatology visit?

Before your appointment, make sure all of your medical records including lab and imaging results have been faxed to our office.  Please bring copies of imaging on a DVD.  The day of your appointment, wear loose, comfortable clothing or bring a T-shirt and shorts.  Please remove finger nail polish before your visit.  The physician will take a full medical history, perform a head-to-toe physical exam, and discuss recommendations and treatment plan.  If needed, we have the ability to perform joint injections during your visit.
